WILPF on the Front Page of the LA Times

WILPFers were out in force to support one of our own, MacGregor Eddy, at her federal trespassing trial in Santa Barbara earlier this year. MacGregor is a member of the DISARM! Dismantle the War Economy! leadership team. Read her sentencing statement here.

This protest was noticed by the kooks at the California state office of Homeland Security and reported in today's lead story at the LA Times.

While it is a shame the government is wasting our taxpayer money spying on us, it comes as no surprise. WILPF recently filed a FOIA request. Our last one, 25 years ago, brought us 23 boxes of information dating back to 1923.

What can you do to help the peace and justice movement from further incursions on our civil rights? Join raging grannies, radical cheerleaders, and proud new parents in making peace a reality: Join WILPF!

  • Peace Organizations, including WILPF, have been silent on the recent Delta IV Spy Satellite Launch out of Vandenberg. This is disgraceful considering that the Titan satellite launch was given as a concern issue related to the Oct 2005 arrest at Vandenberg.
Weaponization is about the events of the military industrial complex as much as about the response to the events. This spy satellite launch was huge and very welcomed by the pro-war, pro-CIA sector of our country. Other upcoming events at Vandenberg include a missile defense launch and ICBM MMII launches. Will WILPF remain silent about these important events as well? We lose ground when we fail to become first responders to American arms buildup.

  • Since you chose to post anonymously, I do not know if you are a member of WILPF or a concerned citizen. In any case, let me try to respond to your concern. First of all, it is my understanding that our Disarm committee works seriously and continuously on issues related to Vandenberg. I strongly disagree with you that we've "remained silent" on anything. Simply because we haven't released a statement doesn't mean our members have not strongly opposed specific aspects of the arms buildup. Further - who do you oppose? Peace organizations or the American arms buildup?

We lose ground when we participate in fighting amongst ourselves rather than working against the war mongers and anti-justice forces of the world. There is truth behind our slogan - Make Peace a Reality: Join WILPF! To bring your issues to the forefront of WILPF's work, I encourage you to work within our local, national, and international structure to denounce America's use of weapons / occupation and its arms buildup.

  • The EVENTS (ICBM launches, BMD, Dedication of Ronald Reagan Missile Defense Facility at Vandenberg, Spy Satellites, Boeing $615M settlement/find for mission scamming, Spy Satellites, etc) of Vandenberg need to be heard. Some local groups are doing an excellent job in speaking out on the above events and the global buildup of missiles. One such group is Nuclear Age Peace Foundation in Santa Barbara. WILPF needs to follow their example and speak out about the launches and their consequences not only at VAFB but other Western States and Pacific Rim bases as well, rather than harp on one spying incident. It's not about you, WILPF!

  • Actually, this blog is all about WILPF - promoting membership and publicizing our work. I will delete any further comments that disparage our organization.

WILPF is proud of its 91 year history as a leader of the peace movement. But unless more people join our organization, contribute money to our organization, and promote our organization we will not be able to survive another 91 years.

As I've said, the current focus of our national program is Challenging US Policy on Palestine / Israel, and Water.

That is why most of my posts focus on Israel/Palestine, Water, and generally promoting WILPF.

WILPF continues to stand against nuclear technology and WMDs throughout the entire United States and the entire world. See http://www.reachingcriticalwill.com and http://disarm.wilpf.org for more information.

This blog does not reflect the entirety of WILPF's work. Rather, it is a compilation from active US WILPFers and its scope of postings will only expand if I receive submissions from our members. If you would like to debate WILPF's place in the global peace movement further, I suggest emailing me directly rather than sending vitriolic comments to our blog.
